For years, gay rights activists in Colorado repeatedly said it would only be a matter of time before they would be allowed to marry.
They repeated that even as they struggled to get civil unions passed through the Colorado Legislature. Then, less than a year after civil unions became law here on July 1, 2013, state courts began to topple gay marriage bans across the country, albeit with stays pending appeals to higher courts.Read More
“Like the avalanche of decisions we’re seeing from every corner of this country, the court recognized that loving, committed same-sex couples should have equal access to the law’s protection.”
The Alaska Supreme Court today ruled unanimously that the same-sex partner of a person killed on the job should have access to the protection of Alaska’s workers’ compensation law.
“This is a wonderful ruling for same-sex couples in Alaska who have built lives and raised families together but were at risk because they were barred access to a critical safety net created specifically to catch families at moments of crisis,” said Peter Renn, Lambda Legal Staff Attorney...Read More
Is Eating Only Bananas Healthy? by Davey Wavey
I watched a YouTube video about a woman who eats only bananas. She said that the diet has improved her life and that she’s lost a lot of fat. Is this diet really something that I should try?
Eating only bananas isn’t a great idea. Why? Because bananas lack important nutrients that your body needs. Bananas have almost no vitamin A, no calcium, no vitamin d, no vitamin b-12, almost no iron and just a gram of protein. They also lack significant quantities of the essential fats that your body needs.
The absence of legal protections for same-sex couples made the news last year when a Kansas City hospital denied a man the right to stay by his male partner’s bedside.
Now many area Missouri hospitals are trying to make themselves more accommodating to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender patients and their families.Read More
Allison Flood Lesh wants a divorce. She’s happy to share custody of her 17-month-old daughter.
At the moment, she can’t have either wish. Her home state of Texas doesn’t consider her to be married or a mom. Her name isn’t even on the birth certificate.
Those two problems “never even crossed my mind” when she began looking for a lawyer to get out of her same-sex marriage, performed legally in Washington in 2010. “I didn’t think it would be this hard,” Flood Lesh, 33, says. “It’s a lot bigger than I initially thought.”…

Well done, Comic Con!
At this year’s popular comic book convention in San Diego, organizers have orchestrated a panel focusing specifically on transgender issues. Called “Breaking Barriers: Transgender Trends in Popular Culture,” this panel is reportedly the first of its kind as it will consist solely of panelists that identify as transgender.
The panel is organized by Prism Comic’s Tara Madison Avery and will reportedly analyze the appearances and representations of trans characters and include open discussion about the complexity and depth added by featuring the transgender experience in comic books…

As Vikings players reported to training camp at Minnesota State Mankato this afternoon, special teams coordinator Mike Priefer made his first public comments since it was announced last Friday that the team was suspending him for two to three games following the investigation into former Vikings punter Chris Kluwe’s claims that Priefer made anti-gay comments in a team setting.Read More
Holy Fire Ministries founder Bert Farias penned an eyebrow-raising piece about the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community in Charisma magazine, arguing that homosexuality is “demonic” and will have “destructive physical, emotional, and spiritual consequences.”
In his piece, Farias asks LGBT people and advocates to “please do not get upset with me. I am for you and not against you.” In fact, he adds, he is “actually trying to help” people with same-sex attraction.
The piece, which is titled “The Raw, Naked Truth About Homosexuality,” continues:
[Homosexuality] is such a putrid smelling demon that other demons don’t even like to hang around it. A genuine prophet of God told me that the Lord allowed him to smell this demon spirit, and he got sick to his stomach...
This week the New York Giants announced the hiring of former Giant David Tyree as director of player development. I thought this report had to be some sort of sick joke. Coach Tom Coughlin described the job like this:
It is the working relationship with the players to aid them in their continuing education, their development as young men…. It is there to help instruct them, make them aware of the issues and the problems that exist out in the community and the world to try to keep them focused on their job and not fall into trouble.
How exactly is a homophobe – a man who has worked tirelessly against LGBT rights, supported harmful “pray away the gay” therapy, and condemned gay marriage; was a spokesperson for the notoriously anti-gay National Organization for Marriage; and couches his a...Read More
